HOW DID ACCA GET STARTED?

Our Evolution

  • Our roots go as far back as the early 1900s.
  • National Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Association (NWAHACA) and the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors of America (ARCA) were formed to give voice to industry contractors, manufacturers and wholesalers.
  • In 1968, NWAHACA dissolved and merged with ARCA and created what is now known as the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
  • Before disbanding NWAHACA transferred to its contractors the organization's tangible assets and rights to technical manuals - the goal being to assist contractors in operating an  independent trade organization.
  • The resulting 1969 organization was the National Environmental Systems Contractors Association (NESCA).
  • In 1978 NESCA was renamed Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA).

Today, ACCA is the largest organization of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration contractors in the industry.
